Before the invention of the printing press books were copied by monk scribes in their monasteries. Besides being scribes, they were also illuminators, archivists and librarians. A realistic window into this world was portrayed in Umberto Eco's beautiful work, The Name of the Rose. In this diorama set c.1250 in a Cistercian monastery, I wanted to represent a space infused with sacredness. Many thanks to my friend Luciano Leni for his masterful painting of the subjects, and their accessories, including the illuminated manuscripts.

The KIT contains all the characters, all the accessories, shown in the picture, but not the walls, and the floor which can be ordered separately in the section 'Accessories for Dioramas'
